Netflix announced its next addition to the streaming service: the first-ever animated series, Best Friend.
The show follows a group of friends who are given the ability to “make friends with any animal,” including foxes, squirrels, wolves, and even humans.
“It’s a new kind of family fun,” the show’s executive producer, Andrew Berg, told The Hollywood Reporter.
“We’re going to be introducing a lot of fun new ways to make friends with the animals.”
Berg, who is best known for directing the critically-acclaimed series Inside Out, said that the show will feature “some of our best friends” as they embark on a trip to see the sights.
“Best Friend is going to show the world the amazing animals in this country,” he added.
The series is set to premiere on the streaming platform on March 1, 2019.
“What we’re really excited about is the way it’s going to play with what’s happening in the world,” Berg told THR.
“That’s what we’re most excited about.
I’m also really excited to be part of a show that’s bringing so much joy to so many people.”
The series, which premiered in 2017, will feature a number of animal friends, including a rabbit, a mouse, and a bear.
“There’s a lot that’s very familiar to us that are new to us, and we’re going through this as best friends,” Berg said.
“This is something that’s so fresh.
We have to try to be as funny as we can and bring our best to the series.”
The show’s cast includes Amy Poehler, Will Arnett, James Corden, and James Cordray.
The first season of Best Friend will debut exclusively on Netflix on March 15, 2019, and Berg said that he hopes to have a release date for the show by the end of the year.
“The series is very exciting to us,” Berg added.
“I think it’s something that we’re all excited about.”
Best Friend was created by Berg and executive producer Mark Gordon, and was created to serve as a showcase for the talents of his cast and crew.
It’s a show about best friends who become best friends through “the power of friendship.”
“It will be a show where the characters come together as a team and get to meet the people who are important to them, and it’s also about making fun of things they find funny,” Berg explained.
“In terms of how it plays, I think it will be very funny, and people will laugh.”
The cast also includes the likes of Amy Poehlman, Zach Woods, Nick Jonas, Adam Driver, and Zachary Levi.
The original season of the show was released in 2015, and Netflix released the series on the same day.
The channel also released a series of animated shorts featuring the cast, including the first two episodes of Best Friends.
