The Digital Archive Of Cryptozoal Pools was launched on October 17, 2019 and is the largest online collection of the most popular digital artwork on the web, including digital paintings, watercolours, murals, sculptures, drawings, video games and more.
The new website features a dedicated gallery for the artworks, along with galleries for digital artworks by artists such as Stephen King, James Cameron and the aforementioned artists.
“Digital archives are the perfect way for us to share the most important and beautiful work on the internet,” digital archivist Chris Brown said.
Digital artworks that were created by an artist can be shared on the site for a limited time only.
While the new website is the first time the digital archive has hosted such a massive collection of works, the Digital Archive has already had a major impact on the world of digital art.
It has been used by artists around the world, including the UK, Australia, Canada, New Zealand and South Africa, as well as by the Smithsonian Institution and museums.
This includes the National Museum of Australia, which will have a gallery dedicated to digital artwork.
Other digital collections include the digital art collections of The Library of Congress and the National Library of Ireland, which are also currently in storage.
In the meantime, the digital archives are being maintained by a team of people working independently.
Artists are encouraged to visit the archive on a daily basis, and to contribute artwork through the new portal.
For the past six months, the team has been updating the site with new artwork by artists and curators.
Some of the artists include: Stephen King: The title of this artwork is a reference to the popular film and TV series The Dark Tower.
James Cameron: This painting depicts the iconic ship of the same name in space.
Stephen Carpenter: A portrait of a large blue bird, which appears to be sitting on the ocean floor.
Alan Turing: Alan, who was one of the pioneers of the development of the field of logic, is shown as a young man sitting on a table with a pen and paper in hand.
Derek Cianfrance: “The book says: ‘I am not a robot.’
But I am an art.”
Stephen Sondheim: In this work, a young boy walks down the street, dressed as a girl.
Cameron: Curtis Millar (of American Gods) has created this stunning image of a young girl and a young dog in a playground.
Marilyn Monroe: There are many interpretations of this painting, but the most commonly believed is that it depicts Marilyn Monroe in a bathtub with a glass of milk.
Hugh Hefner: Hefner, who died in 1972, was one the most influential men of the 20th century.
Michael Caine: An image of Michael Jordan, the NBA star, is depicted in a painting by Canadian artist James Hutton.
Toni Collette: Collette was a French photographer who was also a famous photographer.
Jill Horwitz: Here, an illustration of a man with a woman’s face is a tribute to Jill Horwitz, who worked with Marilyn Monroe.
Elizabeth Taylor: Another image of Elizabeth Taylor, who is one of cinema’s most famous stars, is also displayed on the new digital archive.
Garth Brooks: Brooks, the lead singer of the rock band The Byrds, is featured here as a child.
Ralph Waldo Emerson: Two children wearing pink leggings, who are pictured in a photo, are depicted here as children.
Robert Frost: Frost, who has often been referred to as the “father of Western civilization”, is depicted here.
David Bowie: Bowie is featured as a boy with a pencil and paper.
Fiona Apple: Apple is the wife of actor Robert Pattinson, who plays a character in the new film The Martian.
Martin Scorsese: Scorsese is featured in this photo.
Charles Bukowski: Bukowski, who wrote many of the stories in The Brothers Karamazov, is here, with a large group of young children, in a pool of water.
George Clooney: Clooney is pictured here as an adult.
Mark Ruffalo: Ruffalo, who portrays the villain of The Empire Strikes Back, is pictured on the digital digital archive with his daughter.
Tom Hardy: Hardy is here as he is known in the film Gladiator.
